What You Should Know About Windshield/Auto Glass Replacement and Repair

Filed under: Auto — admin @ 11:17 am

When you take your car to auto technician to get it repaired, you expect the person doing the work to be skilled – to be an expert. This isn’t necessarily true, and in the case of glass repair and windshield replacement, the results can be unsafe or downright dangerous.

Throughout Minneapolis, several windshields are replaced or repaired each week. However, some windshield replacement and repair is done incorrectly, due to inaccurate or insufficient training, or because the technician is in a hurry and cutting corners. Here are a few things to look for when having your auto glass replaced or repaired.

Weather Factors: According to the National Associates for Safe Auto Glass Replacement, if the temperature is less than 40 degrees, any windshield repair or replacement should be done inside. The reasoning behind this is because the adhesive used during the replacement takes longer to dry in cold weather – and your windshield isn’t secure until the adhesive dries.

Type of Adhesive Used: Make sure – by insisting, if you have to – that the glass repair is done with a strong adhesive. Keep in mind that cost may be a factor and the repair shop may choose a weaker adhesive to bond the glass. This is a serious safety issue; if the adhesive isn’t strong enough or applied correctly and you get into a wreck, your airbag deploying could actually push out your windshield. If the windshield isn’t installed correctly, it could also cause early – or late – airbag deployment.

Adhesive Drying Time: A good auto glass repair and replacement shop will give you a warning about how long you should wait before driving your car. However, this warning is not always correct. While they may tell you that it takes an hour for the adhesive to dry, a lot of adhesives actually take two hours. It’s recommended that you ask the manufacturer of the adhesive what the drying time is, and how long you need to wait before driving your car.

Insurance Recommendations: If your insurance is paying the bill, realize that some insurance companies will recommend cheaper places – not necessarily the best or safest auto glass repair/replacement shops. A little bit of research on the recommended company can save you a lot of headaches.

Installer Experience: Windshield installers don’t have to be licensed or certified to do the work – which leaves the possibility open for those that don’t really know what they’re doing. When choosing a shop, ask if their technicians are certified and how much experience they have. Certified technicians have to be able to prove that they know what they’re doing.

In every area of business – not just auto glass replacement and repair, there are those that do the work correctly and those that don’t. With a little bit of information, however, you have a better chance at choosing the correct business to use – one with integrity, skill and care for their customers.

Good luck, and safe driving!

Cut Overhead 80% on Fax Marketing

Filed under: Business — admin @ 10:17 pm

A fax machine has been part of office furnishing for the last 10 years. We are now provided with a way to save the extra money spent on a fax machine, toner or paper, plus time needed to manually transmit the business fax marketing information.

Email is used commonly by nearly every person who uses a computer. It is now possible to send a fax by email, safely and quickly. Not only that, but there are companies that will take your fax and send it out at the time and day you specify to every person on your business contact list. Their charges are approximately 80% less than the cost you would incur by doing it yourself, significantly improving your productivity and slashing your overhead.

To explain further, think of the newsletter you want to send out each month advertising the special offers you have for your customers. The newsletter is written, then copied, folded into pre-addressed envelopes, stamped and mailed. You would be doing well to hold the cost down to one dollar per envelope. It will arrive with all their other mail in approximately 5 days. A faxing service will take your written copy and contact list. When you specify the day you want the fax to arrive, they will see that it is there, charging approximately twenty cents per fax. Not only that, you will know which of your customer’s numbers have changed and which of their machines are out of paper. Studies show that people read their faxes.

This is not magic. The fax service uses special software to transmit the fax online through the email. The online faxing software is low cost. Anyone with internet access can quickly install it on their computer. For those working from home this can improve your productivity significantly. With the advent of the World Wide Web, it is possible to send an international fax as easily as locally across town. The internet fax software includes a real telephone number, although no land line is required, cutting expenses even more. It is no longer necessary to wait for the fax to transmit. Just address the email, attach the fax and click send. Receiving a fax is just as easy.

If you do not have a fax number for all of your customer’s, make it a point to inquire for one when you are confirming their mailing address and phone number. Be sure to ask if it is acceptable to send an occasional fax with special offers. For advertising purposes it is possible to rent a list a fax numbers. In some states sending unsolicited faxes is not legal. This can be construed to be junk fax or faxing spam, so check to be sure you do not break the law. For the business person working from home, using email to send and receive faxes is certain bring higher profits. Low cost programs are offered on the internet to assist the home business in selecting the best faxing software.

The Splendor of the Garden

Filed under: Home — admin @ 10:04 pm

The modern day life is filled with lots of hustle and bustle. The twenty four hours of the day are hardly enough to complete one’s daily errands and numerous duties. Most of us seldom have enough time to relax and rejuvenate ourselves. When people do receive such breaks, they prefer visiting someone, going to a movie, etc. However, the best way to recharge oneself after a hectic schedule would be to spend some time in a park as it provides an opportunity to spend some time with Mother Nature. Instead of going in search of a park, many prefer to have their own backyard garden. A garden would be enticing but a garden without any outdoor seating would not be nearly as pleasant.

One need not consider spending extravagant amounts for providing one’s own garden with some outdoor seating. It is like a formality that gardens ought to have concrete tables and a recycle bin or a couple of recycle bins. A garden also needs to have certain other features such as planters and some ancillary concrete furniture. A person, who creates a garden with lots of pain-staking efforts, will see to it that the garden looks absolutely majestic when adorned with the right type of outdoor seating. A recycle bin is also essential as it would be disheartening to see a garden littered.

The arrangement of the outdoor seating is also of great prominence as it determines the outlook of the garden. As far as benches are concerned, the most preferred option is erecting some concrete tables. The appearance of the benches are not a matter of concern, but it is advisable that one devotes a little of his attention in this field too as awkward benches could ruin the grandeur of the garden. If the bench selected exactly merges with the garden, then the result would be a heavenly abode.

There are also other garden accessories such as statues, planters, recycle bins in addition to the concrete furniture. These are used to enhance the beauty of the garden. The way the garden appears is a result of the toil one undergoes in constructing a garden. If all the concrete furniture such as concrete tables, concrete benches and recycle bins match with the surroundings of the park, the entire efort is worth it. If it does not, the entire sweat goes in vain. Concrete site furnishing is also of equal prominence as it decides the guise of the garden.

A garden might sound easy to construct but the entire process is strenuous and a person who undergoes all the efforts would feel dejected to see his entire toil ruined. This is because the concrete bench and the few recycle bins are never used properly. This is one of the vital reasons that people who create backyard designs do not mind spending a little extra for the best quality of outdoor seating. They would never like to see their entire dogged effort sidelined by some lousy concrete furniture. After all, a garden is a spot for some relaxation and nature loving. For such a place concrete site furnishing of the optimum quality would enhance the beauty of the place.

Which way for Bloggers?

Filed under: internet — admin @ 10:45 pm

WordPress has proved to be one of the most acceptable web publishing tools for many bloggers. It is available in PHP language and backed by MySQL database. WordPress and is made available on a GNU license. Other different versions exist and are constantly being a very energetic and enthusiastic team of developers. The different versions, from the older versions to the newest one, can be downloaded from the internet and installed following simple instructions. There is online support for those who are unable to install by themselves. WordPress can be hosted on a local server, giving the owner control over the information. Source code for WordPress has for a long time been accessible to hundreds of community developers making it east to make improvements on it and passing off the benefits to a large number of users. Also, anyone can submit ideas for improvement to WordPress who may consider it when developing future versions. In addition, those disgruntled by any particular aspects of WordPress can also hand in their worries, though no word as to what is done to these submissions.

One recurring theme among the open source is that one can customize the software to suit ones needs. For WordPress, this is also true, for one can do this by first getting free WordPress templates from the internet which can then be customized according to the person’s own requirements. One can then control what to appear on the weblog by editing templates using a tool called template editor. Amazingly, this is something that can be done on the web browser itself, instead of downloading content to edit it. there are template tags which enable a relatively unskilled person to design content.

Another template available for upstart bloggers or those who want to improve on their existing blogs is phpBB template. It was primarily meant to be used together with phpBB, an open source product that also use PHP. The platform has undergone several modifications that gave its developers some bragging rights on versatility that saw phpBB being compatible with a number of databases. As more improvements are made, perhaps it becomes a bit tricky to use these tools.

phpBB can be modified to fit a particular purpose or use by free phpbb templates that are available online. The two platforms are forces to reckon with as far as providing a solid platform for bloggers to publish their works. It’s hard to say what separates the two, and many experienced bloggers who have used the two of them say that both are as exciting. So much better for the customer who now has choice.

TECH CONFERENCING SAVES TIME, COSTS

Filed under: Business — admin @ 4:14 pm

The conference room of today often depends more on technology than on conference tables and chairs. In fact it is often made up of an assortment of technological devices. Large corporations with offices across the country and even abroad are using telephone conferencing and web conferencing to meet with staff in other branches. With this new tool. anyone who needs to interface with other branches or departments across the county and sometimes around the world are finding that it’s much cheaper and easier in the long run to get together over the phone. Executives or business or organization leaders can communicate with large groups by using audio conferencing devices, and with the addition of web conferencing, can meet with audiences who can see presentations, take tours, vote in surveys all from their own computer screens at their own desks. Big companies, small companies, government offices, nonprofits, churches and more, all are getting into the teleconferencing bandwagon. The big reason they cite for this is that it is a monetary savings. Your employees, members or whatever, don’t have to drive somewhere, or worse, take a plane. Plane travel has become so difficult these days, what with waiting in line, clearing security checks, waiting while the airline reschedules your flight – air travelers have impressive lists of the obstacles to an easy and pleasant flight, even if you’re booked into first class. Teleconferencing bypasses all these headaches, plus the time lost in transportation and fatigue factor. The technology involved in setting up a conference varies with the size and complexity of the users’ need.

A number of companies have developed and are selling devices which can be installed at the home base. However, there can be a learning curve with these. Newer in the technology are companies who have stepped forward with plans to make conferencing much easier. Some companies can help in conference calls with a service which uses their own bridge and provides personnel who are trained in the use of the equipment. They provide operators and a call monitoring center which makes setting up large, complicated conferences simple for their clients. Combining telephone conferencing with web conferencing is also being offered to companies. Web conferencing allows the use of slides, interactive technical support and web tours that a corporation can use in its presentations. On the interactive side are various types of polling that provide the conference host with instant feedback. There are complementary conference call services which make life easier for the conference host. These include important amenities such as interpreters who will translate the proceedings in the language of the participants, a huge help in conferences that include countries like India, China and many European countries. Some conferencing services also provide recordings of the proceedings; some even provide transcribers, who will provide a hard copy. Pricing for these services is found to be very cost-effective when compared to the cost of physical meetings. And the host can control the outlay by selectively choosing which service he or she requires. Virtual conferencers can save a bundle by handling much of the detail work themselves.

WHAT YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR IN A WEB HOST

Filed under: internet — admin @ 6:31 pm

So, the time has come to choose the right web host for your business. Make the right choice and your customers will be very pleased and so will you. A little time and effort spent researching your options, is all it takes.

Some hosting companies provide just server space while others even take care of your websites development and even offer maintenance services. Who you choose will depend on what services you require.

If control and customizability is what you are after but do not have the big bucks to shell out for your own server then a vps server or a virtual private server is your best bet. Here are some reasons why a vps server would be good for you.

- You are free to install any software you require and setup your account the way it best suits you.

- Unrestricted access to the root folder where you can enable or disable any of the applications

- You can store and process critical data in a secure and private environment.

- Your server’s speed is unrestricted as the server space is not shared by other clients.

- You can install programs and customize the server environment to your own requirements.

If security and speed are of prime importance to your customers and if you have a large customer base you should consider dedicated hosting. Dedicated hosting gets your website an entire server and all its resources which you have control over. It is the most advanced form of hosting there is and also the most expensive

The hosting option for websites which use Microsoft tools like ASP, ASP.NET and Microsoft SQL is windows hosting. There are various plans, some offering private servers, but most of them will offer you at least 1GB in web space, Microsoft servers and many other Microsoft specific enhancements. Microsoft server software used along with windows hosting services, help hosting providers improve their efficiency.

If your business or personal website does not have to manage sensitive data shared hosting should work perfectly for you. Shared hosting plans offer the most attractive rates and usually work well depending on the reliability of the service provider. The only difference is that many clients share the same server space.

If you do not mind certain disadvantages like advertising banners, limited hosting space and restricted bandwidth, you might want to consider free shared hosting. Your site may not be a speed demon but at least your website will be up and running for no cost at all.

As you can see you have a variety of hosting types and hundreds of hosting service providers to choose from. It is a topic well worth researching as your business or personal image can depend on it. Your efforts will not be wasted.

GIVING YOUR HOME A NEW LOOK - THE QUICK AND EASY WAY

Filed under: Home — admin @ 8:09 pm

The thought of giving your home a makeover can be an unnerving prospect, no-one wants to start an open ended home renovation project and have to live in an almost perpetual state of chaos, or lose out on precious leisure time at home. However, a great quick and easy way to quickly give your home a new look is to remove those old faded curtains throughout the house, replacing dated fabric patterns with the clean lines of modern blinds which can produce a completely different ambience and lighting in the rooms throughout the home.

There are solutions available for every type of home, lighting and location requirements, home owners are often amazed at the difference the window coverings make to the whole look and feel of their home. For example interior wood shutters may be perfect to give a country home that authentic rustic old world feel, whether it’s a newly built home made to seem like it is steeped in history or an old home made to feel fresh and lovingly restored.

Alternatively home owners may prefer a modern take but retain the classic looks of wood and the light scattering abilities of wood blinds including hunter douglas wood blinds which come in all shapes, sizes and a range of colors to complement existing wood furniture and decoration styles, yet able to give your home a completely different feel.

If wooden blinds and shutters are not to your tastes, another option which results in classic styles and enhanced control of light and shade are roman blinds , these easy to install solutions can give a room the impression of more space and are a great way to open up the room to more light or cut down on glare. Colors are available to complement and enhance the color scheme of your home.

For the ultimate in modern chic, aluminum mini blinds may be your preference; these offer clean sharp lines, a high degree of light control and look great with contemporary furnishings and equipment.

All of these solutions are quick and easy to install and are available in any size to order. Before embarking on a lengthy redecorating project it may be worth your while to first look at replacing the window coverings, often this simple change can exceed your expectations and open up new home renovation ideas that might not be obvious. Sometimes it is said that it pays to look at things in a different light - the installation of blinds can give you exactly that.

GETTING YOUR WEBSITE ON LINE

Filed under: internet — admin @ 9:29 pm

There are many reasons to have a website. It gets you out there where you can be found. No longer is advertising in the newspaper or radio station enough to bring your business to the attention of your target customer. Everybody is online for almost everything these days. So, you have to have a WEBSITE! Suddenly, there is a whole learning curve to master. You have to decide what you want your website to accomplish, sell, inform, or assist your potential customer to do.

The next step is to find a way to get your website on the internet where it can be found. For this you are going to need a “host” who can place your site on the web and make it available to searchers. There are a lot of hosting companies offering this service for a price, and you will find that there are many variables to consider. Your search for the right host can be speeded up by checking a comparison service that provides web hosting reviews. This way you can see a comparison of various companies side by side, by price, by size and by many categories.

A good first step in placing your site with a hosting company would be shared hosting. This arrangement is the most affordable. There is a cost, of course, but due to the fact that many websites share the resources of one computer, it is less expensive than having a computer all to oneself. Stepping up, there is the VPS version of hosting. Here the users of the service have a dedicated portion of the server to themselves, in an arrangement where they are walled off from the other users. The users work with the host to determine just how much of the server functions they require and the charges are based on this quantity. It is a help to compare the top vps sites using the helpful reviews when looking for hosting of this type.

A more ambitious enterprise will likely need more space and be able to afford the use of a computer completely dedicated to the enterprise. Costs do go up, obviously with setup fees as well as the costs of using a complete server. If you are a tech whiz, you might save some money with this arrangement by using your own expertise to administer the system.

If all these arrangements leave something to be desired in terms of size and flexibility, you can buy your own server and find an existing host who will allow your server to be physically placed in their data center, allowing you full use of the infrastructure that is needed. This arrangement is called collocation, and the costs to you would mirror the advantages and flexibility.

Another way you could host your website would be to do it yourself on your own computer. This would be free, of course, but you’d have to be savvy about the technical requirements.

Getting your site on the web is a challenge. There is a bewildering wealth of opportunities you can choose from. You can balance how much to pay a hosting company against all of their requirements and come up with a solution. Research up front is a true friend. It can save you expense and worry, not to mention down time. Do your homework, kids!!!

My Grandmother and Internet

Filed under: Business — admin @ 12:34 am

My grandmother died in 1983, much before the World Wide Web ensnared the entire world in its wake. I wonder what she would have said about today’s communication facilities and the ease with two people can get in touch with other if they want to. Distances have shrunk beyond imagination and the whole world has converged in the desktop.

She loved to be in contact with friends and was probably the most prolific writer of letters I have ever seen. And her telephone, it was scarcely free whenever she was at home.

I am sure she would not have believed that hundreds of people from all corners of the world can now get together in a meeting without moving from their seats through web conferencing. She would most certainly compare the effort she had spent in arranging one get-together of her friends in the local club. If she was here, she could have met all her friends daily even if they were hundreds of miles away – all from the comfort of her favorite leather armchair. This would not have cost her the world. Internet has also made communication extremely cheap.

The fact that communication has become so cheap would have surely made her lament those insanely costly transatlantic calls which made her purse lighter by at least $100 every time she dared to make one.

On those gloomy days when rains simply refused to stop she was at her sulkiest worst. She couldn’t go out on her sojourns and felt bitter at not being able to keep up with the latest gossip. It seemed someone had squeezed out of her the zest and pep which made her the cynosure of any gathering. I almost felt she was not my grandmother but somebody else whom I don’t know.

Those sullen evenings wouldn’t have come back again had grandma been around now. She could have availed of conference call services and gathered all her friends together, yes, wherever they may actually be (might even be in another continent!) and could have carried on her daily dose of chit chat and would have been her usual chirpy self.

Had she been alive she would have stopped hunching over her table late in the night in order to write a long letter to one of her sisters. She would have stopped making her daily visits to the post office too. Instead, she would have contacted everybody through web conference and created memorable gatherings of all her friends and acquaintances every evening. All from the comfort of her warm hearth.

Grandma, sure you’d have liked the way we communicate these days. But do you know grandma; this has also quickened the pace of my life. Those dainty fairies and cute princesses of the fairy tales you used to spin have been locked up for ever in the prison of unbearable workload. I long for those lazy afternoons when goblins freely flitted in and out without the pressure of missed deadlines.

Grandma, how I wish you were here.
